YouTube expands deepfake detection technology to artists
Published on 2026-04-23
YouTube has expanded access to its likeness detection technology, previously limited to content creators, so that artists and entertainment industry professionals can also use it to identify potential deepfakes.
The company has worked with talent agencies and representation firms to refine the tool and make it accessible without requiring users to have their own YouTube channel.
This system helps identify AI-generated content in which a person’s facial image is used without permission. It also allows users to track such material and request its removal, according to the company in a statement.
The likeness detection feature was introduced on YouTube in October last year to help creators monitor how their image is used in AI-generated or altered videos, contributing to the protection of their identity against manipulations that may misrepresent their views or message.
