WhatsApp to introduce temporary private chats with Meta AI through new incognito mode
Published on 2026-05-14
WhatsApp has unveiled a new feature aimed at strengthening the privacy of conversations with Meta AI: the so-called incognito chat. This mode will allow users to hold temporary conversations with the assistant without messages being stored.
The tech company explained that this tool expands the privacy protections already provided by end-to-end encryption, ensuring that only the user can access the content of conversations held with Meta AI.
Thanks to its private processing technology, the new incognito chat creates a secure environment in which not even Meta can access exchanged messages. According to a statement sent to Europa Press, conversations will not be saved once they end.
Meta said the new feature responds to growing user concerns about the confidentiality of information shared with artificial intelligence, especially when it involves personal, financial, medical, or work-related matters.
When users start one of these temporary chats, the conversation will be protected within an isolated and private system designed to prevent external access, including access by the company itself.
Meta also announced that it plans to launch a new feature called parallel chat with Meta AI, which will allow users to receive assistance within any conversation without leaving the main chat, while maintaining the same privacy protections.
The company expects to roll out incognito chat on both WhatsApp and the standalone Meta AI app in the coming months.
