The Commodore 64, the legendary 8-bit computer that enjoyed its heyday in the mid-1980s, has made a comeback, albeit this time at the hands of two Italian entrepreneurs under the name of Commodore PET, an Android-based smartphone featuring an eight-core SoC inside, and a 5.5-inch screen.
However, the only direct relation it has with the original computer is that it holds the rights to use its brand and that, according to its new owners, it will be more focused on gaming. The Commodore PET comes equipped with an eight-core, 64-bit processor running at a frequency of 1.7 GHz, a 13-megapixel camera, and a 5.5-inch screen with Full HD (1080p) resolution.
Moreover, the Commodore PET will feature factory pre-installed emulators for the original C64 and Amiga, allowing users to enjoy the classics of that era. The Commodore PET is expected to be priced between 275 and 334 euros, depending on the version with more or less storage or RAM, which will range from 2 to 3 GB.
Its operating system will be Android, and for now, it is not known when it will arrive in Spain, but the company has already announced its launch in Italy, France, Germany, and Poland, with plans to expand across Europe later on.
