Over a third of Spaniards use social media to flirt, and more than half do it through Instagram

Published on 2025-04-15

Over a third of Spaniards—specifically 37%—use social media to meet people and flirt, mainly via Instagram, while Tinder is the most preferred dating app.

This is revealed by the EAE Business School report “Dating Apps: Peak or Decline?”, which analyzes how Spaniards approach dating. According to the study, men are more “inclined” than women to use this method to meet people and find a partner, with 39% compared to 34%.

Instagram is the most used social media platform for dating, chosen by 53% of users, followed by Facebook (28%) and TikTok (16%).

By age group, Instagram and TikTok dominate among younger users, while Facebook is more popular among older generations.

Furthermore, 56% of men use Instagram for dating, compared to 49% of women. On other platforms, men also remain the majority, while 34% of women do not use these digital channels to meet people.

FUTURE

Regarding the future of interpersonal relationships, more than half of respondents (51%) believe they will “combine digital and in-person aspects” in the coming years, while 33% think relationships will be “predominantly digital.”

However, 16% believe in a return to “traditional ways of dating,” and 13% think these platforms will disappear “in favor of more organic methods.”

DATING APPS

As for dating apps, Tinder is the most “preferred” among Spaniards, with a 65% usage rate, followed by Badoo (31%) and Meetic (21%). However, Ok Cupid has the best conversion rate (50%) between users who have the app and those who use it daily, followed by Badoo (45%) and Bumble (44%).

Almost half of respondents believe that in the next five years, dating apps will incorporate more AI to “improve match compatibility and personalization.”

In this context, Mila Plazas, co-author of the report and professor at EAE Business School, emphasized that although the “popularity” of dating apps “remains high,” “concerns about safety, authenticity, and the emotional impact of use” present “a challenge for the sector.”

“The key will be integrating advanced technological tools, like artificial intelligence, and creating safer and more authentic spaces for users,” she concluded.
