The mobile phone market is highly fragmented, and unless we are loyal customers of a specific brand, the decision on which mobile phone to buy and when often becomes tedious.
Based on our experience as mobile phone sellers since 2008, we have compiled this list of tips that may help you make a purchasing decision:
- Do not purchase a mobile phone on pre-order or immediately after its launch unless you are in a hurry or willing to pay more to have it sooner. Typically, you will find it between 10% and 20% cheaper a few weeks later.
- There are brands with very volatile prices like Samsung, Sony, LG, and Nokia, with fluctuations of up to 30% up or down within days. Manufacturers like Apple, HTC, or Huawei show more moderate variations, although it depends on each model. European brands like BQ, Airis, or Archos have more stable prices.
- Do not limit yourself to mobile phones specifically launched for the Spanish market. Often, you can find the same device cheaper in a version from another country. Always check the shipping cost, compatibility with Spanish networks, and make sure it has a warranty in our country.
- The price of high-end mobile phones changes in relative terms much more than that of mid-range and low-end phones, both over time and depending on the country of origin.
And do not lose sight of the fact that:
- Over time, all mobile phones decrease in price.
- In Spain and Europe, users renew their mobile phone every two years on average.
- The smartphone is a device with very rapid obsolescence compared to other electronic devices like laptops or computers. Take this into account before making a large expenditure.
- A phone truly becomes obsolete when you can no longer use it for the purpose you intended. Most users have a mobile phone with features beyond their communication needs.
