Today, March 15, World Consumer Rights Day is celebrated, a day during which the rights that consumers have when they consume any type of product or service are highlighted. Making purchases online has become a widespread trend among the Spanish population, given the ease of being able to buy from wherever and whenever we want, especially through smartphones and tablets.

That is why on such a marked day it shows what are the 5 basic and fundamental rights of the consumer on the Internet:
- Right to know the identity of the seller: One of the main rights of the consumer when buying online is to know who is the company that is behind the purchase we want to make. In fact, companies that carry out electronic commerce operations in Spain are legally required to show their NIF, company name and contact information on their website.
- Right to know shipping costs, conditions and delivery times: It is necessary that the seller clearly specify what are the conditions and delivery terms. If this were not the case, the deadline for delivery should be 30 days, which in case the seller can not comply, must notify the buyer to decide whether or not to continue with the purchase. In addition, if there is an unjustified delay, according to the General Law for the Defense of Consumers and Users, the buyer is entitled to a refund of double the amount of the purchase. In addition, it is necessary that the user knows what are the expenses that the shipment will have before finishing the purchase process.
- Right to protection of personal data: Consumers have the right to know how and why the personal data collected by the online store will be used, as well as to correct and delete them whenever they deem it convenient. The user must also know if the website is using cookies and what they are being used for.
- Right to a secure purchase: The buyer has the right to make the payment in the most convenient way among the different options offered by the seller without surcharge. For the purchase process to be secure, it is important to verify the web in which we are making the purchase, which must have a security certificate (shown through a padlock in the address bar) and a url that Start with the acronym https. In addition, it is good to have antivirus security software to prevent a Trojan horse or other element of malware from infecting our equipment and stealing bank credentials.
- Right to return: One of the aspects that most concerns the consumer when buying online is the return. In this sense, there is a period of 14 days from the receipt of the product in which the buyer can return it without justification, although it will have to take care of the shipping costs. In the event that the product does not accept returns, it would be necessary to specify it in the sale process. If the received product is damaged or does not work, the consumer has the right to repair or replace it at no additional cost.
