ONCE Foundation grants its accessibility seal to Samsung brand products

Published on 2023-12-02

Samsung Electronics has announced, in commemoration of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, which will be celebrated on December 3rd, the acquisition of a new Amóvil accessible technology seal for the Galaxy Z Fold5, Galaxy Z Flip5, and Galaxy Tab S9 devices. This addition complements the ATECH seal on all Samsung televisions from the 2023 range. These distinctions, awarded by the ONCE Foundation, certify their accessibility for people with disabilities.

The ATECH seal is a mark of the ONCE Foundation available to manufacturers and developers of technological products and services, certifying the accessibility for people with disabilities in electronic products and services outside the scope of mobile telephony, for which the Amóvil certification is reserved. The ATECH seal covers technologies such as Smart TV, laptops, smart home appliances, and video game consoles.

These devices thus join the Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 and A8, S21, S22, S23, A33, and A53 series, among others, which received the Amóvil seal in 2021, 2022, and early 2023. Additionally, Samsung televisions from 2021 and 2022 also received the ONCE Foundation's ATECH certification, demonstrating the company's ongoing efforts in accessibility. Since 2020, Samsung has been certifying most of its devices, thereby ensuring they meet universal accessibility requirements.

"With this accessibility distinction from the ONCE Foundation for the Galaxy Z Flip5 and Z Fold5 foldable family, we take a further step in the accessibility of our devices and advance in our goal of improving the quality of life of people with disabilities," said Alfonso Fernández, Director of Marketing and E-commerce at Samsung Electronics Iberia. "We are proud to obtain this certification, which, along with that of our entire 2023 range of televisions and those we already had from previous editions, makes Samsung a benchmark brand in this field."

Accessibility, a Key Player in Technological Advances

Thanks to these Amóvil and ATECH seals from the ONCE Foundation, Galaxy Z Flip5, Galaxy Z Fold5, and Galaxy Tab S9, as well as the entire range of 2023 televisions, are certified as accessible devices for people with partial vision, no vision, partial hearing, no hearing, moderate manipulation difficulties, severe manipulation difficulties, comprehension difficulties, color vision difficulties, and speech difficulties.

Regarding televisions, here are some of the features offered to visually impaired people:

Voice Guide narrates what appears on the screen.

Audio Description visually details scenes from compatible TV programs.

Graphical Zoom allows elements to be enlarged up to 200% of the image.

High Contrast and Grayscale options improve readability and reduce visual fatigue.

Color Inversion reduces glare.

And modes are designed to adjust colors for people with color vision deficiencies or to highlight the outline of objects for people with low vision, respectively. Tools are also provided to learn to use the remote control and menu screen, through audio.

For smartphones and tablets, Samsung provides the TalkBack screen reader, allowing the phone to be used without looking at the screen, as well as tools like Display Mode that make it easier to adjust contrast and size to aid reading. For people who have difficulty distinguishing colors, the Color Inversion and Color Correction functions can adjust the smartphone's settings, simplifying the visual interface. Additionally, Extra Dimming reduces brightness for more comfortable reading in the dark.

Magnification and Magnifier tools help to examine fine details. Furthermore, features such as Audio Description, Bixby Vision for Accessibility, and Voice Label improve interaction with the environment and objects. Accessibility Shortcuts and options to Reset Accessibility Settings make managing these configurations easier.

These accessibility seals from the ONCE Foundation are part of the company's initiatives in accessibility, framed within its corporate program "Technology with Purpose," aiming to improve people's lives by breaking barriers through technology.
