Spaniards used their mobile phones more on Christmas Eve and Christmas

Spaniards increased their mobile phone usage on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day compared to the previous year, according to voice and data traffic recorded by major operators.

Movistar recorded a 17% higher data traffic on the 25th compared to Christmas 2022. The peak usage occurred at 10:00 PM.

Regarding voice usage, Movistar's mobile network recorded a 3% increase in traffic on this Monday compared to the same date in 2022, with 12:00 PM on December 24th being the peak voice usage time. Additionally, this Sunday, the 24th, had the highest voice traffic for the entire month of December.

For Orange, data traffic through its mobile network on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day increased by 20% compared to the same dates the previous year. The peak values were recorded on December 25th at 10:00 PM. The traffic on WhatsApp through Orange increased by 10%, a year-over-year increase very similar to the last two years.

Data traffic on Orange's 5G network grew by 93% compared to the same dates in 2022.

On the other hand, Vodafone Spain's network recorded an 11.3% increase in data usage on December 24th and 25th. The most significant increase occurred in the usage of data with 5G technology, which tripled compared to Christmas 2022.

Compared to the previous year, Vodafone's mobile data traffic registered an 18% increase on Christmas Eve, with 4:00 PM being the peak activity time, and a 20% increase on Christmas Day, with 10:00 PM being the peak activity time in this case.

Voice traffic, on the other hand, follows a very similar trend to the one experienced in recent Christmases, with a significant 20% reduction in voice minutes. The peak voice traffic hour, as in Christmas 2022, was at noon on Christmas Eve.
