WhatsApp will incorporate augmented reality effects and filters in video calls

Published on 2024-06-20

WhatsApp is working on a set of augmented reality effects and filters that will accompany the update of the video call interface, making the experience more lively and interactive.

The interface of video calls on WhatsApp will soon undergo a facelift aimed at modernizing it, displaying the profile picture larger and reproducing the image with greater clarity.

These changes will be accompanied by new augmented reality effects and filters, which have begun to be tested in the beta version of WhatsApp for Android (v2.24.13.14), as shared by the specialized portal WABetainfo.

With these new augmented reality contents, users will be able to participate in more fun video calls, and some filters will help achieve a better appearance, for example, by smoothing the skin.

These effects and filters are currently in development and are expected to arrive in the app with an upcoming update. Soon, it will also be possible to use an avatar in a video call, which will reproduce the user's gestures, and customize the background, with an image or by blurring the environment.
