Meta has announced changes in how it indicates that content has been edited or modified with Artificial Intelligence (AI), as it has moved the 'AI Information' button to the publication menu, instead of displaying it under the username, as it did until now.
The American company announced in February of this year that it would begin identifying realistic content generated by this type of tools that is published on its social networks (Facebook, Instagram, and Threads).
While it first introduced the 'Made with AI' label for those images in which it had been used, it did so both for images generated from scratch and for those that were real but had received some modification or retouching.
Hence, it designed a new, more informative approach and replaced this indicator with 'AI Information' in July. With the introduction of this new label, users now have access to more details about the use of AI in these publications.
It was placed below the name of the person who published it, so that users only had to click on the label to receive information about why it has been tagged as such and to what extent image generation technology has been used.
Meta has changed again the way it indicates that content has been modified with AI, to better distinguish it from content that has been generated from scratch with this type of tools, which will retain its identifier. In this case, it has announced that next week it will also share whether the content is tagged as made with AI because its creator has indicated so or because Meta has detected it as such.
In publications where it has only detected retouching, it has moved the 'AI Information' label to its menu, identified with three dots in the top right corner of the content. Once this button is clicked, this option expands to provide more details.
