The Atresmedia Foundation and the Spanish Service for the Internationalization of Education (SEPIE) – an organization that acts as the National Agency for the European Union's Erasmus+ program in the field of education and training in Spain and is affiliated with the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities – have signed a general protocol of action with the aim of carrying out joint educational initiatives among children, young people, and teachers.
In this way, both entities will promote awareness, outreach, and research projects aimed at promoting and disseminating skills related to the media, informational, and digital environment, with special attention to the integration of common European values and active citizen participation.
The agreement was signed this Thursday at the Atresmedia headquarters by the Corporate General Director of the Atresmedia Group and Director of the Atresmedia Foundation, Patricia Pérez, and the Director of SEPIE, Alfonso Gentil Álvarez-Ossorio. Representatives from both institutions were also present, emphasizing the importance of this collaboration in promoting a critical, ethical, and responsible use of technology and information in the educational field.
The first action under this collaboration will be the promotion and dissemination of the "Efecto MIL" project by the Atresmedia Foundation, whose 4th call for entries is open until February 28. This initiative invites young people between 16 and 25 years old to create a one-minute video in which, using their creativity, they address and propose solutions to combat one of the following digital risks: the dangers of viral challenges, harassment on social networks, hate speech, fake news, and addiction to social networks.
Other major lines of action include, on the one hand, training and outreach initiatives to raise awareness among Spanish and European society—especially young people and teachers—about the development of media, informational, and digital skills, while promoting common European values, citizen participation, and democracy.
On the other hand, joint implementation of direct intervention projects aimed at young people and teachers will be carried out, focusing on improving their media and digital skills by incorporating European values and encouraging active participation. Additionally, collaboration in the mutual dissemination of the activities carried out will be promoted in order to increase the impact of the initiatives.
During the signing of the agreement, Pérez highlighted that “the Atresmedia Foundation has been working for years on promoting the media, informational, and digital skills of young people. This collaboration with SEPIE will allow us to combine efforts and bring our projects to a greater number of students and teachers.”
For his part, Gentil Álvarez-Ossorio stated that “one of the priorities of the Erasmus+ 2021-2027 program is participation in democratic life and the promotion of common European values and civic engagement. Erasmus+ supports active citizenship and ethics in lifelong learning; it fosters the development of social and intercultural skills, critical thinking, and media literacy.
He also emphasized that “the collaboration with the Atresmedia Foundation will foster greater awareness among young people to participate in the democratic life of their community and a better understanding of what Europe means.”
