Meta plans to launch an independent application for its 'chatbot' Meta AI to bring the company's Artificial Intelligence (AI) capabilities closer to more users, separate from its social media platforms, with a release scheduled for the second quarter of this year.
The company, led by Mark Zuckerberg, introduced its AI assistant in September 2023, a technology based on its Llama models, with the ability to access real-time information and interact using natural language through services such as WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger.
In April 2024, Meta AI was integrated into its platforms, powered by Llama 3, with options to generate images based on user instructions, request information about leisure plans, for example, or make inquiries related to social media posts.
Additionally, Meta also launched a web version of the 'chatbot' and began integrating it into the Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses, reaching over 500 million Meta AI users by November of last year, despite not having launched it in regions like the European Union due to regulatory issues.
Now, Meta is developing an independent application for its AI-powered 'chatbot,' which is expected to launch in the second quarter of this year, according to internal sources cited by CNBC.
This way, users will be able to access Meta AI's features independently, without needing to use the 'chatbot' through the company's platforms and social networks, which is currently the only way to access the assistant.
Moreover, sources related to Meta have indicated that with an independent app, users will be able to interact more extensively with the assistant and integrate it into their daily tasks.
In addition, the cited media outlet also reported that Meta is considering testing Meta AI as a paid service, offering a monthly subscription option to access more advanced assistant capabilities.
This is an option the company has mentioned on multiple occasions, stating that it is a way to create "a massive business" by monetizing its assistant.
Finally, it should be noted that the company plans to hold its Llamacon event, focused on its latest AI innovations, on April 29.
