Apple will update the AirPods Max headphones next month to support two technologies that will enhance sound quality: lossless audio and ultra-low latency audio.
The USB-C version of the AirPods Max will receive a firmware update in April alongside iOS 18.4, iPadOS 18.4, and macOS Sequoia 15.4, enabling them to deliver higher-quality audio, as announced by the company in a press release.
The over-ear headphones will support lossless audio at 24-bit, 48 kHz resolution, a technology designed to preserve “the integrity of the original recordings.”
Currently, the Apple Music streaming service offers more than 100 million lossless audio tracks in its catalog, which users will be able to enjoy on the updated AirPods Max.
They will also support ultra-low latency audio technology. As Apple explains, “by delivering high-resolution digital audio that is both lossless and low-latency, artists can record and mix seamlessly with AirPods Max without sacrificing fidelity.”
