Nintendo’s new console, the Switch 2, will support DLSS image upscaling and ray tracing technologies, which significantly enhance video game image quality.
Nintendo unveiled its new hybrid console this week, which improves performance over the original Switch and introduces new features such as mouse mode for the controllers and GameChat for playing with friends.
During the presentation, some specs of the Switch 2 were left unclear, such as the processor, although the console’s technical sheet states that it includes a custom processor made by Nvidia.
Thanks to the semiconductor manufacturer, the Switch 2 also uses DLSS neural rendering technology, as confirmed by the company in a press conference following the event attended by IGN. It also confirmed that the console’s GPU supports ray tracing technology.
Nvidia, for its part, confirmed on its official blog the presence of both technologies, support for 4K resolution in TV mode, 1080p at 120fps in handheld mode, and high dynamic range (HDR) support.
Regarding the GPU, it noted that it includes dedicated RT cores for ray tracing, adding realism to visuals, and Tensor cores for artificial intelligence, to power DLSS and other social features such as facial tracking and background removal.
The handheld gaming mode also uses Nvidia G-Sync to enable variable refresh rate.
