Smart devices for road safety: technology in the service of prevention

Blind Spot Monitoring Systems

The blind spot monitoring system (BSM) uses radar sensors to detect vehicles in areas not visible through the mirrors. This device emits visual or audible alerts when another vehicle is in the blind spot, helping the driver change lanes safely. Connected Breathalyzers

The implementation of connected breathalyzers, or “alcolocks,” is an effective measure to prevent driving under the influence of alcohol. These devices require the driver to blow into them before starting the vehicle. If the blood alcohol level exceeds the legal limit, the system blocks the engine's ignition. This type of technology is already mandatory in some professional transport vehicles in Spain, according to current regulations.

Road Safety Mobile Applications

Mobile applications also play an important role in road safety. Tools like "miDGT" offer real-time information about traffic conditions, radar alerts, and danger zones, as well as the ability to perform procedures related to the vehicle and driving. Additionally, navigation applications like Waze or Google Maps include traffic and accident alerts, helping drivers plan safer routes.
