Down Spain announced this Monday the launch of its new 'soy más' app to better understand the reality of people with Down syndrome and provide a more adequate response to their needs. It is an innovative, easy-to-use tool that, through a multiplatform environment (accessible from mobile phones or other devices), leverages digitalization to serve inclusion.
The app will collect information and identify the real needs of people with Down syndrome and the social agents in their environment: family members, professionals, and volunteers from organizations.
Through a series of simple questions, it offers a space where people with Down syndrome can convey information about their reality and their needs. Thanks to this ‘big data’, Down Spain and its federated organizations will be able to understand the collective’s needs firsthand and in real time, thereby providing more concrete support.
According to the Director of Programs at Down Spain, José Gutiérrez, the app "is not a social network nor a virtual tutor. It is a tool that will act as the first real-time observatory of Down syndrome at the national level.”
In his view, "it will make the collective's real needs visible to demonstrate to society that people with Down syndrome are much more than a group that shares genetic characteristics." "They are students, workers, athletes, and much more.”
Registration on 'soy más' is designed for people with Down syndrome or other intellectual disabilities residing in Spain, their families, and the professionals and volunteers who assist them. The personal data collected will be handled confidentially and with high protection.
To be part of 'soy más', one must register and keep the data updated. Once registered, the user will enter the 'Club soy más', where they will also find raffles, offers, and discounts on a multitude of activities.
This tool was developed within the framework of the Balmis Digital 2.0 program, designed to improve the functioning of Down Spain and its entities through digital innovation. It is a project funded with the funds from the European Union's Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, managed by the Ministry of Social Rights and the 2030 Agenda.
