20% of internet users in Spain use tools like ChatGPT

About 7% of Spanish internet users regularly use some form of Artificial Intelligence (AI) chatbox, and 11.7% use one occasionally, according to the latest "Household Panel" from the National Commission on Markets and Competition (CNMC).

Regarding the use of smartwatches or activity bands (smartbands), 34.8% of individuals with smartphones claim to have used them (compared to 64.6% who have not). As for GPS navigation apps, Google Maps leads (91.6%), followed by Waze (10.2%) and Apple Maps (9.7%).

The CNMC panel shows that internet use continues to rise: more than nine out of ten people connected to the web at least once in the last three months, and almost 80% reported using it multiple times a day.

Among internet users, Google was the most commonly used search engine, with 92.2%, followed by Bing (4.1%). About 4.4% of individuals say they don’t regularly use search engines.

For messaging, WhatsApp remains the top application for sending messages (93.2%) and making video calls (67.6%). For online messaging, WhatsApp is followed by Instagram (26.2%), Telegram (18.2%), and Facebook Messenger (13.6%).

ANDROID

More than 80% of individuals with smartphones use them multiple times daily to send or receive online messages. Half use them daily to browse social networks, and 46.6% to check emails. The least frequently used daily services were watching videos (29.3%), playing games (21.0%), and GPS (11.7%).

The preferred operating system is Android (75.8%), followed by iOS, which increased to 19.7% (+3 points compared to the same quarter in 2023). Around 1.0% use another operating system.

Among iOS users, young people dominate, while Android users tend to be older. Nearly half of iOS users are aged between 10 and 34, while for Android, the proportion is one in four.
