Registration Period Open to Participate in the NTT DATA Foundation’s Technology Olympiads

Published on 2025-01-24

The NTT DATA Foundation has opened the registration period for the International Technology Olympiads, an online and free competition for children and adolescents between the ages of 7 and 16. The competition aims to foster an interest in programming, develop digital skills, and contribute to reducing the digital divide from an early age.

According to the NTT DATA Foundation, which is organizing this competition for the fourth consecutive year, the Olympiads seek to bring children and adolescents closer to the world of programming and technology not only as consumers but also as content creators. In the competition, participants develop their digital skills and strengthen their creativity, critical thinking, communication abilities, and time management by creating projects such as video games and animations.

Through a playful and entertaining experience, young participants face challenges that drive them to find solutions to real problems in their environment, with the support of NTT DATA volunteers. This learning model not only “breaks down barriers” but also provides participants with "key" digital tools for their personal and professional future.

This year’s novelty in the Olympiads is that winners will be selected by country and category to compete in an international final in September of this year. This format will allow for a more equitable and diverse representation, giving participants from different parts of the world the opportunity to showcase their talent and gain recognition on a global stage. The Spanish final will take place in May.

INTERACTIVE JOURNEY

The Olympiads are conducted through a digital platform that will bring children closer to programming across 10 modules that they will complete over two months with age-appropriate training. During the course, participants will learn the fundamentals of computational thinking, stimulate their creativity, ability to identify problems and propose solutions, communication skills, curiosity, discipline, and perseverance.

At the end of the program, participants will tackle a final challenge by creating a video game, an animation, or a story using the free programming tool Scratch to solve a problem in their environment.

An evaluation committee will select the finalists, who will present their proposals in a virtual session before a panel of experts who will choose the winners to compete in the international phase. Fun prizes (robots, drones, educational programming materials, etc.) will be awarded to further develop their digital skills.

No prior programming knowledge is required to participate in the Olympiads. All you need is a computer and an Internet connection. Registration is free and can be completed by February 20th.
